About Sarah

Perthshire-based artist Sarah Spofforth-McOuat paints a wide range of animals, everything from sheep to ostriches!

She says of her painting: "categorising my work has always troubled me but have settled on ‘textual art’ as the best description of my use of mixed mediums to create contemporary artwork with a rustic charm."

Sarah trained as an Interior Designer at Manchester Metropolitan University and then worked for several Architects around Liverpool and Manchester, but her passion was always for art and whenever I got a moment would be covered in paint.  Her life was radically transformed when she met her future husband, Tom, and she moved to Scotland to live with him on his Perthshire farm.  In her new farm surroundings, painting animals was a natural progression, and a corner of the cattle shed became the new studio and gave her the freedom to go wild.

"My experimental use of different materials like fabric samples and plaster helps me add texture, character and brings the pictures out from the canvas.

I started doing local Craft markets as an outlet for my artwork and have slowly worked up to launching myself at events like Country Living and The Royal Highland Show. Some of my commissions can be found hanging in The Lake at the Port of Menteith restaurant, Kings Home, Bar 10 and homes from New Zealand to America."

We are delighted to be showing Sarah's textural and humorous work here in Glasgow.
