Scottish artist Jean Hall lives and works on the Hopetoun Estate, just outside of Edinburgh. Her instantly recognisable works are exhibited widely and we are delighted to represent her here in Glasgow.
Jean specialises in beautiful and intricate, formally structured, still life paintings, usually with an oriental or Indian feel, full of rich colours and motifs (she makes her own rubber printing stamps to apply pattern to backgrounds and details). Collage also makes an appearance on occasion, integrated in to the surface to give extra pattern and texture.
Recurring symbols in the works include the elephant, the geisha, flowers, bowls and teapots, which often combine to create unusual juxtopositions within the formal composition.
