Andrew is a landscape painter based in Helston where he explores the varied Lizard Peninsula, and beyond, through oil paintings. Working 'en plein air' and in the studio, he aims to capture the atmosphere and ‘feel’ of a place. Whilst painting he uses a variety of alla prima techniques and traditional glazes
Talking about working outdoors, he says: "Usually I find somewhere quiet, off the beaten track, where I can work quickly and without distractions, loosely trying to capture that particular moment in time. This work helps me remember what I’ve seen when I’m back in the studio. My preferred medium is oils and whilst working outside things can get messy on the canvas. A palette knife is an essential tool in my painting box – mainly for scraping back the layers to reveal the under painting."
